Tony Mustard looking to follow in James Mulheron’s footsteps at Made4TheCage25: Legacy

By Ben Smith

In a landmark 25th Made 4 The Cage show, Tony Mustard will be looking to claim heavyweight glory within the north-eastern promotion against Dave Wilson and insists current UFC heavyweight James Mulheron was his inspiration.

Upon being given the chance to fight for the British title, Mustard elaborated on his emotions: “I’m So delighted. I’ve made no secret that I wanted these titles. Ever since I saw James holding both titles I wanted them. I just had to be patient as I knew James would get called up by Bellator or UFC as I would never like to fight my training partners for them. So as soon as the call came through I jumped at the chance.”

The Team Fish Tank athlete remains confident ahead of his return to M4TC and insisted that despite contrasting form won’t be a factor in this fight: “I’m really looking forward to getting back to winning ways after 18 months without a win. And it’s great EFC gave me permission to fight on this show as I hold a special place in my heart for Made4TheCage as it’s where I started my pro career.

“His record doesn’t bother me, as I’m still on a 6 win streak on M4TC. My defeats have all come from fighting overseas off the Romanian No.1, the South African No.1, and the South African No.1 contender. But this isn’t abroad. This is my house, where I’m comfortable and confident.”

Despite coming up against a man with eight consecutive victories all coming in the first round, Mustard is maintaining his confidence ahead of the highly anticipated match-up.

As James Mulheron has departed to the UFC, not only will Tony be looking to recapture the belts for Team Fish Tank but Mustard also stated what an inspiration his teammate was to him. “Who wouldn’t be inspired by a local lad going from a local show like Made4TheCage to the UFC? I spar with James Mulheron and Phil De Fries who also was in the UFC as well as other great heavyweights. If the UFC came along I would be more than ready. I can only work hard and dream!”

“Oosh” explained his ambitions past his next fight and explained the next paths in his career should he get past the challenge of Dave Wilson: “The plan is to win this belt and maybe in the next Made4TheCage event, push for the European heavyweight title belt as I would love to hold both like James did and then get a couple more wins under my belt.”
