Ryan Roddy says ring rust will not factor against Chris Fishgold

Ryan Roddy and Fishgold at Made4TheCage 18

Irish fighter Ryan Roddy says that his yearlong lay off won’t be an issue when he enters the cage in Newcastle this weekend.

Roddy will make his Made4TheCage debut tomorrow when he faces Chris Fishgold at ‘Takeover’. Roddy last entered the cage when he defeated Louis Chapman at Cage Warriors 70 in August 2014, a fight that the Irishman won in just over two minutes.

However, the lightweight fighter insists that the long delay between fights will not faze him: ‘I have never really felt ring rust as yet. This year fights became limited to due to Cage Warriors inactivity.

‘I took the time to train consistently and reinvent most of my game. It has been an excellent training year.’
Roddy takes a 7-1-0 record into tomorrow and his opponent Chris Fishgold boasts an equally impressive 10-1-0 record.
When asked where he thinks his opponent ranks among those in his career Roddy responded: ‘I would say Chris is the best guy I have fought on paper. Paul Redmond runs him close in a lot of ways too.
‘Chris is a quality opponent and that is what excites me about this bout. I only want to fight the guys that are a real challenge.’

7-1 is an impressive record for 25 years of age Roddy and a win would surely put him in the recognition for some big international companies, however Roddy refuses to look past the fight that is in front of him:
‘I don’t know what a win will do for me. I don’t really concern myself with that; right now I am just concentrating on enjoying my preparation. On Saturday I will fight, on Sunday I might think about the future.’
