Richy ‘the Guv’nor’ Knox takes on Rab ‘Baloo’ Truesdale in a light heavyweight fight for the European title but the Scotsman is relaxed and thinks that the weight of expectation lies with his opponent.
“I believe all of the pressure is on him because it is nearer his nest than mine so I imagine he will have a good strong following with him,” said the man named after the Jungle Book character.
Don’t be fooled by the jokey moniker though as he is a deadly fighter and the nickname is as a result of fighting an opponent in his very first fight whose own nickname was ‘Mowgli.’
Truesdale chose to walk out to the classic song from the movie, the Bear Necessities, and since then the tag has stuck with him and although he knows Knox will be a danger, he is expecting a big finish.
He said: “I know that he is already a European champion in Belgium and is a brown belt in BJJ, is very experienced and trains with top guys like Pete Irving.
“But I predict me winning and I will be looking for the finish. Don’t leave it to the judges! I am looking for a KO or TKO via ground and pound or whatever comes first.
“BJJ is good and all, but it is a lot different when someone is punching you in the face.”
‘Baloo’ is coming off of the back of an impressive performance at BAMMA against Sam Mensah with a devastating TKO win thanks to elbows and fighting on this card and for this belt is something that means a great deal to him.
“I am very excited about this event,” he stated. “M4TC is a great event that is always stacked with the top UK talent and I am delighted to be headlining the bill.
“The belt also means a lot because M4TC is a top show and I am fighting against a top opponent.”
Rab thanks all of the guys at Alloa’s SMTC gym and his sponsors, who include sport-sense.co.uk, www.funkygums.com and Legacy Fight Wear.
