De Fries was cut from the UFC following a first round defeat to Matt Mitrione, but Percival insists that we are still yet to see the best of the Sunderland fighter:
“Phil is an extremely talented grappler but he has been working hard on his stand up, so I think personally that fans will see a better De Fries than was in the UFC.”
Percival, who knows De Fries well, said: “I’m really excited that I have got Big Phil on my show, as we started out training together in Brazilian Ju-Jitsu over 10 years ago and started MMA at the same time. I even cornered him on a number of his early fights.”
De Fries will fight Poland’s Lukasz Parobiec, who has fought in the UK for many years and is currently ranked in the top 20 himself.
While all the talk has been on De Fries’ return, Parobiec insists that this will not be a one-sided fight:
“I know I will fight the best heavyweight fighter in the UK. I don’t fight for rankings like some English fighters, I get an opportunity to fight the best and I took it because I am a warrior.”
Parobiec is currently on a rampage after winning his last 10 fights, boasting an overall record of 10-3 and the Polish fighter is on a rampage and insists that De Fries will be the next to fall: “I will show everything that I’ve got and my prediction for the fight? I’m not going there to lose, I will show my big heart and beat Phil.”
The fight will take place on November 29 and will feature in the main event of the ‘Bad Blood’ fight card.
Dale Percival thinks this fight will be one that fans will want to see: “People might think Parobiec will be an easy fight but he is 10-3-0 and on a 10 fight win streak and is very excited about causing an upset against Phil.
“He is training hard and wants to make a big statement in the heavyweight division. So make sure you don’t miss the North-East’s biggest show fetching the very best fights to the area.”
